The Treasure of the Sierra Madre

John Huston

Synopsis: Adapted by John Huston from a novel written by B. Traven, the film is an examination of how greed can distort human relationships beyond recognition. It follows Fred C. Dobbs (Humphrey Bogart) and Bob Curtin (Tim Holt), two American drifters who meet in the Mexican town of Tampico and are persuaded by the ex-miner Howard (Walter Huston) that gold prospecting is their ticket out of poverty. Together they set out for the Sierra Madre mountains where they find gold, as they had hoped, but this newfound fortune turns them against each other, with Dobbs becoming increasingly paranoid and avaricious.
